Own & operate
Own the stations.
Keep the rentals.
Ampz stations rent portable power banks to people whose phones are dying. You buy the stations and place them in venues; we run the app, the payments and the network behind them. Start with one, or build a route across your city.
Full guide: how to start a power bank rental business.
Who does what
The honest division of labour, before you get on a call with anyone.
Ampz handles
- ·The app, the payment rails and the rental software
- ·Power banks — always Ampz property, replaced when they wear out or walk off
- ·Network membership, so a renter can return a bank at any Ampz station anywhere
- ·Remote monitoring, firmware and platform updates
- ·Onboarding: remote setup and training on the machine, the app and the dashboard
- ·The screen: the creative tools to run your own promotions on it
You handle
- ·Buying the hardware, and owning it outright
- ·Finding and signing your venues — you choose them, you approach them, you sign them
- ·What goes on your screen, and any advertiser you sell it to
- ·Local hands: swapping a unit, helping a venue, keeping sites tidy
- ·Your relationship with each venue, including whatever you agree to share with them
One machine, two jobs
You are not just buying a charger
Every station we sell has a screen on the front, and it is lit whenever the station is on. Most owners think about the rentals first. The screen is the part they end up using every week.
01
The rentals
Someone scans, takes a power bank, and is charged for the time they keep it. That is the engine, and it runs whether or not you ever touch the screen.
02
The screen
A lit display at eye level, in a venue full of people, running whatever you tell it to. Promote the venue you are trying to win. Run your own other business on it. Or sell the space to a local advertiser — bring the deal yourself and the split is weighted your way.
How to start
Five steps, no mystery
- 01
Talk to us
A short call to work out which model fits — how many stations, where you want them, and what you want to run yourself versus hand to us.
- 02
Choose your model
Own the stations outright and operate them, or have Ampz install and service them for you at your own sites. The structure is set on the call, not from a menu on a webpage.
- 03
Get your stations
Hardware ships with its power banks. Dallas-area delivery is handled personally; elsewhere ships freight.
- 04
Place them in venues
Bars, gyms, salons, clinics, hotels, campuses. A station needs a few square feet and a standard outlet — no construction, no special electrical.
- 05
Track it from your phone
Rentals, returns, battery health and revenue per station, live. Your stations appear on the Ampz map so renters can find and return to them.
Run the numbers before you talk to us
Our earnings calculator is open to everyone — no email required, no form in the way. Change the assumptions, see what a station would do, then decide whether a call is worth your time.
The questions owners actually ask
Do I have to buy a minimum number of stations?
No. You can start with a single station. There is no minimum order.
How does an owner make money?
Two ways from the same machine. First, rentals: someone scans, takes a power bank, and is charged for the time they keep it. Second, the screen: every station we sell has one, it is on whenever the station is on, and you decide what runs on it. Ad content is scheduled through the Ampz platform, which is also how we keep standards consistent across the network. Your exact economics depend on which station you pick and the deal you strike with each venue.
Who controls what plays on the screen?
You do. It is your hardware and your screen. We do not sell your screen space over your head. Bring your own advertiser and the commercial split is weighted in your favour — the exact terms are agreed as part of your plan rather than published here.
Do I pay anything when a station is sitting in my garage?
No. Ongoing platform fees start only when a station goes live in a venue. Idle stations, stations in transit and stations in storage cost you nothing.
Is it hard to get a venue to say yes?
It is a straightforward conversation: the venue gets an amenity their customers ask for, without buying anything or staffing it. Which venues you approach and what you offer them is entirely yours to decide — we can explain how placements are usually structured, but we do not pick your sites and we do not introduce you to venues.
What happens if a customer never returns a power bank?
The rental is capped and the card on file is charged, so an unreturned bank is covered rather than lost. Banks stay Ampz property throughout.
Do the stations need the venue’s wifi?
No. Stations connect over their own built-in cellular connection. Wifi is a fallback, not a requirement — that removes the IT conversation from your venue pitch entirely.
Does the hardware need Ampz to work?
Yes, and we would rather say so plainly: an Ampz station runs on the Ampz platform. You own the hardware and can sell it, but it needs an active plan to operate, and the power banks remain Ampz property. Continuity, not lock-in for its own sake — a station that changes hands keeps working.
Where can I do this?
Anywhere in the US. We started in Dallas–Fort Worth, so that is where density is highest today, but there is no waitlist and no service area — we will talk through your market on the call.
